Already Have the Bond Form?

Send it to us. A copy of the bond form, licensing letter, application, email, or agency instructions is the most reliable way to make sure you buy the right bond.

We’ll check the bond name, amount, obligee, required form, and other details before moving forward.

How Much Does a License or Permit Bond Cost?

You normally pay a premium for the bond, not the full bond amount.

For example, a $25,000 bond does not normally cost $25,000. The $25,000 is the amount of the bond. Your price is the premium charged by the surety company.
Some bonds are inexpensive and require little underwriting. Others are priced based on the bond amount, type of obligation, credit, financial history, experience, claims history, and the surety company’s guidelines.

Will They Check My Credit?

It depends on the bond. Many smaller or simpler license bonds can be written with limited underwriting. Other bonds require a credit check or additional financial information.

If credit is required, it can affect both approval and price.

What If My Credit Isn’t Great?

Don’t assume you can’t get bonded. Surety companies do not all underwrite the same way, and options may still be available.

If your bond requires credit underwriting, we can check the markets available for that type of bond.

How Long Does It Take to Get a License or Permit Bond?

It depends on the bond. Simple license and permit bonds can often be issued quickly when the bond requirement and applicant information are clear. Larger or unusual bonds may take longer because the surety needs credit, financials, experience information, or a special bond form.

If you’re up against a licensing deadline, tell us when you apply.

Reminder

What Happens If My Bond Expires or Gets Canceled?

If an active bond is required to keep your license or permit, a lapse can create a licensing problem. What happens next depends on the agency, the law, and the wording of the bond.

License Bond vs Permit Bond: What’s the Difference?

A license bond is generally connected to getting or keeping a business or professional license. A permit bond is generally connected to permission for a particular project, activity, or type of work.

Agencies do not always use the terms the same way. The actual bond form and agency requirement matter more than the name.

Is a Surety Bond the Same as Insurance?

No. Business insurance generally protects the insured against covered losses. A surety bond guarantees specific obligations to another party.

Getting a bond does not automatically satisfy your general liability, workers’ compensation, professional liability, commercial auto, or other insurance requirements.

Not Sure What They’re Asking For?

One detail that causes unnecessary problems is the business name. The name on the bond may need to match the licensing or registration record exactly.

A higher quote can come from the size of the bond, credit, financial strength, experience, past claims, or the type of obligation being guaranteed.

It can also be the surety company. One company may view an account differently from another.

A cheap bond is not a bargain if the licensing authority rejects it.
